In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products ?

I created my nine frame grid in photo shop

Two shots which you feel demonstrate something which shows you have watched other music videos

I watched this music video that was aimed at young teenagers which included a young male teen on a seat singing changing costumes. I thought it was really effective and looked really interesting and kept me entertained. Also he changed his costume to the beat which looked really well planned and edited, So the shots of Yasmin changing costume in the music room to the beat in 1234 relates to this music video I watched.

This shot relates to a lot of band type music video where they are performing on stage and sing right in front of the camera projecting their voice and self expression clearly. This is effective and for this type of music video it helps to relate to the music genre because it sets an edgy atmosphere to the viewer. Although as for 1234 is a different type of song genre we was not intending to perform edgy singing in front of the camera, we thought it would look effective because it identifies the importance of 1234 lyrics in front of the camera.

A shot that demonstrates your use of mise-en-scene

In this shot it shows the costume and background props and location, it shows the audience that our music video is simplistic but entertaining and interesting to view even though we have not planned to adapt more to the location with more props.

A shot that demonstrates your use of lighting

This shot shows the lighting we set up, the shot shows Yasmin in a spot light and centre of attention, because she is representing 'Feist' so it displays the importance of 'Yasmin' being shown more than others. Everyone is lit up and around them it is more shadowed to make it look more like it is full of people.

A shot that demonstrates your use of camera

This shot in the music video demonstrates good use of camera work because it was planned to be taken in fast movement and unsteady swaying towards Rob the guitar playing starting from the ground working the camera up to Rob. When we watched the footage of this clip it look really effective and thin it is one of the most interesting shots we have demonstrated in the music video.

A shot that shows an intertextual reference

This shot relates to Newton Faulkner 'to the Light music video where he performs in a field just him and his guitar. So this shot is very similar to Rob playing and fading Rob playing on the guitar with shots of Yasmin, this relates to the shots where Newton Faulkner is playing and being faded into other shots in the background.

A shot that illustrates how your video uses music genre

This shot helps to illustrate the music genre because of Rob our actor playing the guitar and that instrument is clearly identified in 1234 song. Also our actor is young and in teenage years and 'Feist' is appealing to teens with all her crowd shots of people dancing in the 1234 song music video 'Feist' is in so this helps to set a example of the type of music genre and audience.

A shot that typifies the way a record company would want their artist to be represented

This shot represents how a record company would want to project their artist 'Feist' and her music because this shot focuses on herself and the background is blurred which takes the importance of the actors from the viewers eyes and draws more attention to her being important role of the scene, also 1234 is a upbeat song and the party scene I have took the shot from helps to associate the artist with her music and social life.

A shot that shows a link between lyrics and/or music and visuals

This image shows clearly Yasmin in a music room location lip syncing to 1234, the piano and drum kit within the room shows the types of instruments used in the 1234 song by 'Feist' which helps to set atmosphere. And the costume shots that show Yasmins feet and odd socks which are bright and colourful which adds to the beat and positive tone of the music.

Question 1 Part 2

Here is my nine frame grid for all the music video shots listed below:

jpeg version

Screen shot

Two shots which you feel demonstrate something which shows you have watched other music videos

These two shots are from the music video 'We Have Band' (You came out) which surrounds close ups of peoples faces in make up it is a animated music video, I like the stye because it is creative also I view it as video art, It also relates to my groups music video with the colour changes of costume but in this they change the colour of their make-up wit animation, we used the stop motion effect for our music video setting it in just one frame and having Yasmin move around in different costumes, like this music video from the video how they made it they have one setting and one position with mirrors that reflect peoples faces and edit between their movements and snap shots taken.

This shot from 'Bjork' 'All is Full of Love' is a close -up of a female robot also the intertextual reference to the music video 'We have Band' ('you came out') is similar because they use close ups of people with face paint and mirror reflections.

This shot from Newton Faulkner music Video 'To the Light' relates to the visuals and music genre, the fact that in most of the shots in this music video is seen as Newton playing his guitar that creates this beautiful harmonic music helps to represent his music genre also. So it would be a recognizable association the audience would instantly make.

In this shot from 'Lily Allen' (The fear) music video Lily is walking towards the camera and there is paint spraying in different colours as soon as she walks pass. It looks really interesting and reminds me of video art, I think that this shot would be away of a record company representing Lily because she is upbeat singer who has magical colours released behind her as she walks with a building behind which projects to me as a 'palace' (so this princess symbol)

In Sigur Ros music video Svefn-g-englar they use a location with people dancing in a field passionately, also there are a few close up shots like this of actors alone dancing in front of the camera projecting their angelic features the lighting really sets the feel and effect to this planned shot.

The music video 'Bat for Lashes' (Daniel) uses mise en scene in this shot the location is simple and contains a lot of props that are displayed to set character to the music video. her costume stands out in the music video as she wears red and everyone else wear's black costumes to convey shadows around her.

Representation of music/lyrics/music genre.

This shot of a brick wall is taken from Pink Floyd music video 'Another Brick In The Wall' the song titles represents the visuals and the lyrics, and the music genre because it is set in old fashioned way and uses old fashioned locations and train tunnels.

1. The Use of camera work in the sigur ros - Svefn-g-englar music video is very detailed and creates the illusion that the watching audience are apart of the performance. The camera uses slow motion and gently pans around the dancers in the field. It sets atmosphere and helps add to the music genre.

Questions 3 What have you learned from your audience feedback?

I took the idea of wordle and changed the concept and created this to show the class feedback for my digipac draft copy. The largest font is the positive feedback and smaller fonts are negative.

This is what people had said about my draft digipac, I reflected their feedback and disagreed and agreed with some points but I decided not to change the digipac to the feedback, but continued to adapt to the concept I had.

I took the idea of a spider diagram but illustrated as a light bulb beaming of the feedback just to give it character and bit more style. This is my feedback from the class about my 1234 treatment and presentation me and my group created for 1234 pitch idea.

Using this feedback we looked at whose treatment was shown the strongest, and what the class preferred more also we the group decided what concept they preferred too, so we went along with more of Yasmin's treatment idea. We did not change the idea of the treatment but we added to the concept using feed back.

Here is the feed back from the class for my groups final music video I used a normal cloud diagram.

After this feedback as a group we reflected on what we should change and adapt to, some people said the piano shot would look good if it looked like the piano was in the wood's, we done this effect following the feedback but me and my group preferred how it was before with the piano and the shots faded together.

This is how the footage looked before then following feedback for the rough cut we changed it

And we changed it to this: We took out the fading shots which were clips that were overlapped but we took out the white wall in the room and made it look the piano was outside in the wood's.

These are the few changes we made on the timeline to the final music video.

Here is my feedback from the class and teacher about the rough cut music video 1234

I used photoshop to edit my feedback and to make it attractive to the viewer of my feedback, I chose this two shapes which look like mirror frames, I thought I would have one containing positive feedback and negative. I chose the shape from photoshop shape tools and I chose a blue background to make it easy to read and stand out.

I have demonstrated my feedback with the most common words in the largest boldest font and the less common and noticed in smallest font and not bold. Also comparing the two frames you can see this way how much more positive feedback was given to me and my group about our rough cut music video than compared to negative. Which helps to show what we had focused on in our final music video.

Here are the shape tools on photoshop I chose frame 6 and edited them with these two effect Blue glass Button and Chiseled sky, I think they stand out and gives texture to my presentation of the feedback.

4.How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

This is the equipment I used for the editing process of the music video,

1. The Editing program 'Final Cut Express' was used during the editing process of the music video. This was a good program to edit on it was simple and has a variety of different effects.

2. The Headphone's were used to listen to the audio and we could check that it was lip synced correctly, and to check that the music file sounded clear. Using headphones was easier for us because we could focus our full attention on the music track than other peoples music track in the class room.

3. The Apple Mac was used to edit on because they are fast and reliable and compatible with Hd footage which meant when we got to the editing stage of the project it run effectively.

4. The Keyboard was used to control the editing program and the mac, There were many short cuts within the editing program (final cut express) that can be accessed by the keyboard.

5. The Mouse was used to operate and function the mac itself.

The HD Camera was used to film in HD quality to obtain good quality footage.

The Tripod was used to stand the HD Camera in position of the shot.

The Lens helps to focus on our location.

The handle was used to direct the tripod and focus the camera in direction to film, it was helpful to pan across with the camera keeping it steady.

The microphone was used to pick up sound that we wanted to film.

The battery was charged before we went set out to film on location.

I have used the above websites / programs during the course of this project

1) Vimeo

I used Vimeo for uploading our rough cut then commenting on eachothers music video's and giving feedback.

2)Wikipedia

I used this to research for information to include on my blog and references.

3)Youtube

I used youtube to upload our music video and also to research into other media related productions such as music video's.

4)Photoshop

I used photoshop to edit imagery and to produce my digipac, and to use colour bucket for the imagery on our planning storyboard of the groups hand drawn shots.

5)I-tunes

Itunes was used to listen to all the tracks at the beginning of the project and to select three and write a pitch for them and treatment, also to download our 1234 song into final cut express when editing.
6)Google

I used google as a research resource

7)Safari

I used safari for internet access

8)Flickr

I used flickr to upload our story board's and class photography

9)Blogger

I used blogger to post my music video project work

10)Long Road CRaM website

I used this to access long road blogger
11) Final Cut Express

I used this to edit the final music video with my group and other little set activities when the project began to experiment with new technology.

Health & Safety for the Production of my Music Video

Health and Safety Rules:

Equipment/filming/location/editing/ health and safety:

1. When setting up the tripod the group must keep their posture straight and in a suitable position in order to bend over and stand the tripod up and extend the legs height.

2. When beginning to film the group should make sure we carry out a health and safety check of the area, to make sure there will be no coming accidents.

3. The actor should be directed safely and not to act in any unsuitable places where it is dangerous.

4. Filming by the pond with camera by hand can be a dangerous caused if someone was to slip or loose their balance and fall in, also it would damage the camera equipment if it was to be dropped into the pond.

1. The right lighting can reduce eyestrain, neck strain and headaches. Sunlight is the best light, but make sure it doesn't create glare on your computer screen.

2. The proper desk will let you find the perfect working position. It should be deep enough to support your arms when you work at the computer.

3. Place your computer screen at eye-level or just below. For optimal comfort, set it about 45 cm (18 in.) from your face.

4. Sit up straight in your chair. Keep your feet flat on the floor and your knees slightly lower than your thighs.

5. Choose an office task chair that lets you tilt forward to reach objects in front of you and backward to stretch your arms when you're tired.

6. When you type, hold your fingers, wrists and lower arms in a straight line from your keyboard.

7. Keep equipment that you use a lot, like your telephone and computer keyboard, within a distance of about 75 cm (30 in.) when you're sitting at your desk. Keep other storage and equipment farther away. This encourages you to change working positions during the day.

Final Day for editing the Music Video

Today was the final day for editing the music video and it had to be complete and uploaded onto vimeo or youtube.

Me and my group asked for feedback from our lecturers and reviewed their opinions and adjusted the problems that they had identified with our music video.

The main problem was the middle footage of our music video, it needed to look more realistic like a music video, and not to look like we had ran out of footage and just placed any type of clips in any random order without planning.

So we tidied up the music video footage and also changed the music track from mp3 so the quality would be better.

Me and Yasmin watched through the finished uploaded version of the music video checking the lip syncing was accuarte and everything was exactly the same as before we quick timed and put on to vimeo.

What would I change if I had more time?

If I had more time I think that I would of put more idea's across to my group about what we could include or adjust, I think the music video looks really good and I would not have changed a lot, maybe if we had more time in the group we could of experimented with new effects and made it look more dreamy with using effects.

What I like about the music video?

I like the fast cut shots of Yasmin changing costume to the beat of the song, I think it helps to create the music video and keeps the viewers interested. Also I like the shot's of Rob, It was my idea to keep the camera in focus and have him changing from tree to tree playing the guitar, kind of stop motion effect. I did not know whether it would look effective but now i am so pleased I put forward this idea and I think it looks like a music video should do.

Comparisons of the groups work

Me and my group have now completed our digipac's and poster's, as we are all working on 1234, I would like to compare them all and see how they have differently shown the artist and they would sell 'Feist'

Yasmin digipac and poster is very attractive and the visuals are very well planned, the photography is well captured, the use of colours are not to over powering and bright they are just simple but work effectively. I also like how she has over laid images of herself on her poster which gives volume to the poster. It is professional work and It represents the artist in a different insight to mine and Jahmal digipac and poster.

Jahmal poster and digipac are more in-tuned with nature than to Yasmin's and represents her self more of a mystery you cant make out her characteristics as she is walking away. It gives the approach to me as a viewer to follow this artist 'Feist' and to be lured into her music genre. The colours chosen are bright and the visuals are interesting.

With my digipac and poster the photography I did myself was sunsets, rivers, tree's and Yasmin herself. I have used the same kind of style as Jahmal had chose natural photography and they both have a lot of differences also.

I think overall my groups digipac's and posters are really effective and represent 'Feist' in a great way and they are all different and represent one an others interest.

Final Digipac

This is my final digipac I had not changed it much to the feedback but I have changed little bits. I have included on the back cover details of the production/ recording studios/ designer and copyright. Inside the left cover the panel you will be able to slide out a information booklet and a DVD the left cover explains the content what is on the dvd. I thought this would help to sell my digipac.

I am really pleased with my digipac I would it to represent on the front cover a bouncy atmosphere for outgoing 'teens' but then you notice the rest of the digipac all calm and natural and I think this contrast works especially targeting to young teenage females who are fond of 'Feist'
