Photography Session

These are the photo's we took around Coleridge I like some of them because they represent the music video we are wanting to create.

Task:

1. Possible Locations and Settings
2. Shot set up's you might be using in your video
3. Abstract ideas for textures and close-ups for the digi pack cover and magazine advert.

We had a presentation about Anton Corbijn a Photographer (and his talent was noticed) also a director of a few music videos.

Excitement,Worries,Solutions

What are you excited about in the project?

I am excited about having the opportunity to take the role of the camera operation. I want to use this as a chance to explore with close-ups and interesting visuals to capture. I am also excited about editing the music video with my group because it will be interesting to see what ideas and how my group would edit the video and how it would be different ideas to mine.

What are you Worries?

Im worried about how our developed idea will turn out, also if the group is disappointed in the overall music video.

What are my Solutions?

For the convincing (realistic scenes we could use maybe the junction instead of the studio at long road, also we need to have good weather for shooting the video but if the weather is so dissapointing all week through when we are meant to be shooting the footage we could either have it set all inside or use green screen.

Time Line for 1,2,3,4

Here is the group's timeline we produced on final cut express, it helps to demonstrate the times of when the instrumental, chorus and verse in the 1,2,3,4 song comes in performance.

We thought we would do it look this because it looks effective easier to visualize than blocking entering points on a paper timeline. Also we have the music lined up to the different parts of the song which helps to understand it. It is more practical for the group to follow by.

Counted number of cuts in three different music videos

In todays lesson at Coleridge we had to work in our groups, the task is to locate three videos
1. Professional music promo
2. Hurtwood House Media
3. Old long road student music videos

We were to answer these questions about the chosen music videos,

How many cuts in the music video are there in the first 30 seconds?

How many cuts are there in the first minute of the music video? ( also the music videos have to have the same similar style and music genre to your chosen track.

Me and Yasmin worked on one computer while Jahmal worked on another he research into the edit cuts on a music video from Hurtwood and me and Yasmin took note of the cuts from a professional music promo.

We found this music video called The show by Lenka because it is similar to the 1,2,3,4 same style of music.

How many cuts in the music video are there in the first 30 seconds?

1. Zooming Shot
2. Close-up
3. mid shot different angles
4. Another mid shot
5. long shot
6. mid shot

How many cuts are there in the first minute of the music video?

7. long shot
8. close up
9. birds close up tweeting in a tree
10. close up
11. long shot
12. close up of birds in tree
13. long shot
14. mid shot
15. long shot (out of frame)
16. close up tweet
17. medium shot
18. mid shot
19. close up
20. close up
21. close up
22. mid shot
23. close up

From the Hurtwood media house Jahmal in my group counted the number of shots of their music video here are the results of shots,

How many cuts were then in 30 seconds? 20 cuts
How many cuts were there in 1 minute? 33 cut

Long road student video:

How many cuts in 30 seconds?

6 cuts

How many shots in 1 minute?

9 cuts

Looking at the table I just messely made for the music video cuts It seems that Hurtwood house media in total adding up their shot of 30secs and 1minute have total of 53 thats even more of the total 23 of a proffesional music promo.

HurtWood House Media

I like these two music videos from hurtwood they have good use of camera work, and style I think the lighting on both of them help to set the atmosphere,
They both also have a story to them which I think makes them more entertaining. The editing of both of them are also well done and
Also the space they have used and the props help to finalize a good music video. It would be simple to create this music video.

Inspirational Images for 1,2,3,4,

This inspirational picture for our music video, of a simple shot of a girl playing the guitar,

Also we want out actor to sit at a step (not sure where) but I thought if a church which will be attractive.

With the idea of balloons I thought look good to let 1,2,3,4, balloons of and the camera will move upwards as they rise into the sky at the same will let them go when the lyrics say 1,2,3,4,.

Also we could think of using a kite as well as balloons

Presentation Day at Coleridge

Because we changed our track to 1,2,3,4 at and todays the presentation and last lesson we still was not familiar with out music video pitch today we will have to focus on finishing our pitch.

Today will be presenting our pitches to the class and Pete (teacher) for the track we have chosen.
Me and my group still need to overview what ideas we have, and if we are using al ideas from everyone collectively or just one persons.

We need to think about before the presentation.
1. Actors
2. choreography
3. location
4. Whose ideas we are following

As a class we watched every groups presentation, and took notes on the pitches then gave it to them to blog up feedback.

Me and my group finished of our presentation on key note we had about a hour to get organized for our pitches. We decided to read out slides and share the talking. I mostly spoke about my treatment for shadows presentation while Yasmin and Jahmal spoke about 1,2,3,4 mostly.

We then had feedback from the class about our group presentation.

Here is the feedback we received:

Pitch 1:

1. Building
2. Costumes
3. Studio
4. Variety - might be messy
5. Costume change
7. Big Crowd? How will it be convincing?
8. Good idea
9. Band join
10. Camera movement
11. which field?
12. Good pace
13. Nice idea to have the video like the T-mobile advert lots of people singing and playing instruments. The idea comes across very well very interesting.
14. How many people are at the end of 1,2,3,4?
15. Like the costume changing idea.
16. I love the colours from your mood-board + the idea of the changing outfits (light dark concept)

Reflecting on all of this feedback, there was no weak points about our group ideas everything seemed strong and they liked our presentation.

Shadows pitch 2

  1. Very detailed idea also very interesting
  2. Good explanation of what costumes would be used (black and white) lots of detail about the make-up.
  3. Shadows in the music video (good)
  4. Good opening
  5. where? (Location)
  6. Good Story-line but maybe just use one person
  7. Contrasting
  8. mirror problem with cameras?
  9. Love this video idea!
  10. Band?
  11. Created good atmosphere

Instrument ideas for 1,2,3,4

Here are some screen grabs from the music video song Sigur-ros it is about children walking about a large location of mountains dressed in all sorts of costumes. The leader which is a little boy has a drum in his hands and he plays the drum to the music while leading. I thought this was like the kind of idea my group was thinking of, and I thought of this video as I know it well to show similar ideas.

As I said on my treatment about a group of people playing instruments tapping to the music, following the singer I thought I would take pictures of some instruments I own and play, So this is the kind of thing I imagined for the the props.

Music Video Director Chris Cunningham

I think that chris Cunningham is a brilliant music video director, his work is so inspiring, his stories behind the music video are important and entertaining. It is new and refreshing, very different.

I personally like Aphex Twin and seen this music video before, what I find inspiring about his work is the special effects and the lighting
which causes atmosphere, and the locations.
I love this music Video it is well made and feels so calming as you watch the expression and movement of the actors under water.

This music video defiantly reflects how it is,with no love and affection. It made me feel like the character who seems alienated
in his surroundings. It is simple but is entertaining, also the music helps to create it however the music becomes irritating after a while.

Chris Cunningham is an English music video film director and video artist. He was born in Reading, Berkshire in 1970 and grew up in Lakenheath, Suffolk.

My Treatment for 1,2,3,4

3.
2.

1.

I made a treatment for 1,2,3,4 because my group has made one for 1,2,3,4 and for my first one I made it for Shadows but we changing songs for other groups to have an opportunity, so I have now collected some ideas of how I would imagine a Music video for 1,2,3,4, and ill share them with my group if they think they are realistic.

Feedback about my treatment

I was given feedback from Tom in class, he told me about two things he thought was unexplained and not detailed enough.

1. Was the setting (In my treatment I said a dark room with candles but I did not mention where the room was (location)

2. Colour, I never explained what colour the music video will change into from the flickering candle light,

In lesson we was given this treatment super Furry Animals "Golden Retriever (A video treatment by Jake and Jim)

So I need to be more detailed.
